If you want to attend a traditional Bulgarian fiesta and try a homemade bacon and hot rakia, do not miss the thematic festival in Apriltsi. It is traditionally held every year. So you are welcome in the town situated near Troyan on February 18.

Everyone will be able to taste an attractive dish called “Granny’s stew.” It will be prepared by one of the participants in the TV show “Master Chief Bulgaria” Sabin Rankov. In a huge pan he will stir up 20 kilograms of bacon, 500 eggs and 30 kg of leeks to amaze the audience. Naturally, all this will be served with a lot of folk music, humor, and dance.

There will also be competitions for dishes made from local product. The competitions are in three categories – for the most delicious and tender homemade bacon, for the best culinary exhibition of dishes with bacon and for the best homemade rakia /typical Bulgarian brandy/. The children also will compete for a prize for best picture entitled “The Feast seen through my eyes.” The winners will receive different prizes and the master of bacon will receive a piglet.
