In the village of Asenovo, Nikopol municipality, Pleven region will be held the international culinary festival “Banatski tastes – the traditions of my village”. Anyone who wants to experience unique specialties, to have fun or to take a part in various culinary competitions should visit the square in front of the village center of Asenovo on August 12th.
The Banat Bulgarians are families that escaped from the country 2 centuries ago in the suppression of the rebellions during Ottoman rule. Some of them return after the liberation of Bulgaria, and other descendants still live abroad. This also affects the Banat kitchen. At the festival, you will be able to see exhibitions-bazaars of traditional Banat dishes, authentic food from different localities and contemporary readings of the dishes.
In addition, you can taste various local specialties, enjoy the performances of authentic songs and dances and other attractions. A number of competitions will take place during the festival. Participants in “I’m already preparing a Banat dish” will present themselves with prepared home-made specialties. The contestants in other competition will make dishes in front of the audience on the square.
Among the most entertaining races will be the cutting of onions not accidentally called “In tears to victory”. Since the 2017th year is also the year of the rooster, there is also a special culinary exhibition where the dishes will be subordinate to the taste or shape of the bird. The organizers have also provided prizes for the most attractive culinary booth.
