Every year the cultural calendar of Varna is very rich and full of the most diverse events. To be able to plan which ones to visit we offer you a brief information about the upcoming events. In March 2017, the movie fans will be able to enjoy the 8th edition of Sofia Film Fest – Varna. Its program presents the latest trends in the world, European and Bulgarian cinema. On 14th of March will start the European Music Festival – Varna. The audience will be able to enjoy the symphonic and chamber concerts and recitals.
In April and May 2017 you can see non-commercial projects by young artists during Contempo – the international expert Festival of Contemporary Art. In September, the event continues with its second part – Autumn School of Art for young artists and cultural workers. Also in May, will be held the 38 th International May Choir Competition “Prof. Georgi Dimitrov”. During the event is awarded the Great European Prize for choral singing.
In June will be held the International Theatre Festival “Varna Summer”. It is held each year between 1 and 12 June in Varna during the Festival of Arts “Varna Summer”. Its main objective is to present the trends in Bulgarian and international stage practice and to create space for intercultural dialogue and exchange market. On June 24 starts the 91st International Music Festival “Varna Summer”. The festival traditionally involves famous musicians.
From 27th to 30th July Varna will host the 26 th International Jazz Festival.through July and August will be held the eighth edition of the Summer Opera Theater. From 30th July to 3 August you can enjoy the participants in the International Folklore Festival “Varna Summer”.
In August in Varna will be held the Festival of digital arts “Futuro”, which presents and promotes the work of artists working in the field of digital arts with creative training modules for young artists. From 1st to 21st of August in the city will be held the 21st International Fair of Arts and Crafts. This is the largest art exhibition in Bulgaria. From 11 to August 13 will be held theFestival Radar, which aims to present musical projects and various artistic forms such as film, video art, poetry, contemporary theater, dance and technology. The celebration of Varna on 15th of August also provides a rich palette of celebrations and events.
From August 25 to September 3 will be held the International Film Festival “Love is Folly”. The competition program includes films from the past two years, dealing with the theme of love. In August and September in Varna is taking part the International Biennial of graphics. There participants from around the world compete for prestigious awards as the grand prize “Grand Prix Varna”, the selection of the jury and and 3 other prizes for achievements in graphic art.
In September will take place the 13th edition of the International Animation Film Festival. It also awards a prize “Golden Kuker”. In the same month Varna will host the 35th Festival of Bulgarian feature film “Golden Rose”. It handed out awards for best film on contemporary themes, best screenplay, directing, cinematography, best performance of male and female role.
From 1st to October 6 in Varna will be held and the International Puppet Festival “Golden Dolphin”. It is held once every three years. Besides competition its program includes workshops, seminars, stage design exhibitions, theoretical conferences, meetings and discussions.
