Antique battles will unfold during the 13th edition of the “Eagle on the Danube” Ancient Heritage Festival. It will be held from 2 to 4 June in the ancient Roman town of Nove near Svishtov. Over 260 Thracians, Dacians, Romans, and gladiators will entertain the audience with antique skills in battles and in the kitchen. Among the groups that have been invited to participate are the most influential group for ancient historical restorations in Europe – Grupo Storico Romano of Rome, Italy. They will be joined by the attractive Romanian reunion groups Camp Virtus, Danais Association and dancers from Nimfe Dacii.
The virtuoso riders of Bagatour and the unique fire show of Ognena, the Phoenix group of Kozloduy and this year will stand by the hosts – the Svishtov renaissance from the First Italian Legion to present the best of the Bulgarian revival on the Svishtov stage. The start will be on June 2 at 8 a.m. with antique racing for children. They will be in the disciplines of ancient Thracian and Greco-Roman sports games.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Scientific Conference “Ancient Heritage – Discoveries and Perspectives” will be held at the Nove Visitor Center. From 9 p.m. Prof. Diana Gergova will be awarded the Eagle of the Danube Award for the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage. The evening will end with a rock concert by Stanley Stefanov Projekt and Balkandji.
Third June will also offer unique emotions for the visitors. From 9 a.m. the Roman and Barbarian camp will be opened to recreate the past. A surprise will be a culinary presentation by the judge in the TV show “Master Chief” Petar Mihalchev on Ancient Kitchen. Of course, there will be a race to prepare authentic Roman cuisine. Apart from a culinary show in the morning, the day will also offer gladiatorial battles, ancient Roman cuisine, rituals, and crafts
From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. is the time of races for strength and speed with participation from the audience, demonstrations, dances, customs and rituals, as well as tasting – at various places in the Nove fortress with the participation of Grupo Storico Romano, Nymphs from Dacia, Bagatour, Italian Legion, Camp Virtus, Danais Association, Virtuus Antique. The Eagle of the Danube Award will be awarded to the former Minister of Culture Prof. Vezhdi Rashidov.
The world-famous musician Theodosii Spassov and the artist’s ensemble “The Creator” will entertain the audience at 7 p.m. An hour later, you can witness the Great Battle between Dacians and Romans: Emperor Trajan’s War. On Sunday, June 4, on the streets of the town of Svishtov, a parade of the participants and the awarding ceremony of the distinguished ones during the restorations will take place. The visit to the festival is free.
