Free buses are going to Vitosha mountain from today until 25th of September during the weekends and the official holidays. There are special shuttles only for bikers and other buses for people who prefer to walk or hike. If you want to go biking you should catch one of the two lines. The first one starts at 8:20 a.m and 10:30 a.m. from the station near the Zoo and goes to “Bai Krustyo” shelter and “Aleko” hut. The buses of the second line start at the same time from Studentski grad and are going to the villages Bistritza and Jeleznitza. They are traveling only in one direction. There are also free buses for the people who prefer to explore Vitosha by foot. They are traveling from the National stadium “Vasil Levski” to Zlatnite mostove, starting at 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. The buses travel back from Zlatnite mostove at 05:00 p.m. and 06:00 p.m. The so called “green line” is sponsored from the supermarket chain LIdl. Vitosha mountain is situated only a half an hour away from the city center and is a favorite place for the people who live in Sofia and its guests. Vitosha was the first to be designated a national park in 1934, and most of its territory has remained protected ever since. There are 10 peaks reaching over 2000 m above sea level.
