For the first time in Botevgrad will be celebrated the Day of the Frog Marsh. Throughout the day, on March 22, games, fun, quizzes and walks are scheduled to help residents and visitors of the city to get acquainted with the migration of the mountain frog Rana temporaria in the Muhalnitsa protected area.
The migration of this type of frogs is unique in the world. According to a study done 50 years ago by Dr. Vladimir Beshkov at the end of each winter, the adult representatives of the species wintering in the streams of the northern slope of Mount Bilo go to the plain and for a few days overcome a distance of about 10 km. The details of the process will be explained in Botevgrad by Professor Beshkov himself.
At 10 am for small children, a free walk to the Fjäshkata marsh is provided with a professional guide. The starting point of the tour is in front of Arena Botevgrad. From 11.30 am to 12.30 pm in front of the hall will be held a number of author’s games with the smallest children. Costume animator-frog will cause children to participate in jumping, overcrowding, and hunting flies competitions.
At 1 p.m. the mayor of Botevgrasd Ivan Gavealugov will start the cognitive part of the holiday with a speech in Orhanyetz Hall at the Botevgrad Historical Museum. After him, a lecture on the migration of frogs and a demonstration of how scientific observations of the amphibians are carried out will be presented by Dr. Vladimir Beshkov and the doctoral student at the National Museum of Natural History at BAS Emilia Vacheva.
From 02.30 pm to 04.30 pm in front of “Arena Botevgrad” are planned games and competitions with elder children. Answering the quiz questions correctly will leave with awards. At 03.30 pm there is another walk to the Frog Swamp for students, older children, and adults, and a professional guide will help them navigate the diversity of species. At 16.30, the results of the photo competition for the best photo of frogs will be announced. All activities are free for the audience and the participants.
