Going on holiday with a pet

Holiday with a pet in Bulgaria We all know that if you are a passionate pet lover and you’ve decided to go on a holiday away from your home, nothing can ruin your vacation the way uncomfortable feelings for your pet can. Of course, you can leave your pet at home, but few are those who would really feel carefree in such a situation. Even if you find a person whom you can entrust your pet to, you will hardly avoid worrying about your beloved animal during the time of your vacation. So if you want to go on a holiday in Bulgaria and there’s no one to take care of your pet or you just do not consider leaving it in a pet hotel a good option, don’t lose heart! Most of Bulgarian hotels are pet-friendly and you can stay there together with your favorite pal. More often than not choosing the place for your holiday depends on your decision whether you will take your pet with you or not. If you decide to travel with it though, you will need to pay attention to several facts:  some hotels might refuse to accommodate you and your pet, others allow only small dogs. Before travelling with your pet it’s a good idea that you make sure it is healthy and has all the needed vaccinations up to date. Attention! As all European Union member countries, according to EU legislation, Bulgaria also requires that a pet must have an electronic chip implanted. Such a chip can be implanted in any modern veterinary clinic. It’s a routine procedure (similar to a usual needle prick), which is fast and does not cause any inconveniences. Be certain to investigate the terms of the airline related to pet transportation. Also when booking a room in the hotel that you’ve chosen, ask in details about everything connected with the accommodation of your animal. There are a good many hotels that allow four legged friends, however their conditions change constantly and you might want to specify the details in advance. Find out more about the following: whether you should pay additionally for the pet, whether this will be a single-time or a daily charge, whether you need to pay a deposit, are there any places where you can walk your pet and does the hotel offer special services, such as walking, taking care of etc. If the hotel, where you have decided to stay in, is small, find out how many pets are going to stay there during the time of your vacation. It’s better if they are not many, because otherwise there might be problems with noise, conflicts between animals and pets’ mating interests. Before setting off remember to take your pet to the vet for checking its overall condition and filling in the needed information in its medical history passport. If you are travelling with a cat or a dog you must first make sure they have an up to date rabies vaccination. Pets, like all travelling animals, also need a passport. It is issued by the vet and contains information about your pet, its health status and the serial number of its electronic chip. There’s no problem taking a dog or another pet with you on an airplane. Different carriers have different regulations for transportation of pets. Fees also vary. We advise you to check beforehand all the details about your pet’s flight. You should also consider that long-haul flights are very exhausting for animals. If the flight is more than two hours, then you will need to check your pet from time to time and be able to walk it for a while. Many European airports allow pets walking on a leash. If you are to change flights, this will be a great opportunity for your pet to have a rest. If you are travelling with a dog take some water with you in a bottle or a bowl, which is familiar to your pet, also wet wipes (so that you can easily clean up after your pet), a brush and a dog chew. It is recommended that you put something that you have worn for a long time in the cage where the pet will be transported. Thus the smell of its owner will make your four legged friend feel more comfortable and calm.
