On December 15th, the Festival of Ice Figures in Rousse will be opened. The place where the masterpieces of frozen water will be sculpted is traditional – in the square next to the Danube Plaza Hotel. The figures will be sculpted handicraftsmen from 6 countries. Every year hundreds of tons of ice blocks turn into exquisite paintings in front of the eyes of the Russians and the guests of the city.

The works of ice art will be available until 14 February. For the good mood of the visitors will take care the bartenders who will offer heart-warming beverages on the ice bar in glasses made of ice. On December 23 at 05.30 p.m., the best sculptures will be awarded. The ceremony will be accompanied by surprises for both small and large.

The tradition of making ice masterpieces in Rousse, however, dates back to the 30s and 40s of the 20th century. Every year in the winter the master confectioner Dencho Nozharov made different ice figures as a hobby in front of his sweet shop “Switzerland”.
