From 5th to 10th June Stara Zagora will live under the rhythm of jazz. Then for the 6th consecutive time will be held the theme festival in the city under the linden trees. This year it will be dubbed “The Big Stars and the Big Orchestras.” This year is the 100th anniversary of the births of Ela Fitzgerald, Télionius Monk and Dizzy Gillespie, and a century of making the first jazz record from The Original Dixieland “Jazz” Band.
The events at the festival are free of charge so that any jazz lover can enjoy them. To light up the jazz magic in the hearts of the children will try from June 5 to 7 June Ventsislav Blagoev (trumpet and host), Nadezhda Dimitrova (vocal), Stanislav Abadjiev (piano), Dimitar Blagoev (guitar), Mihail Ivanov / Bass / and Stoil Ivanov / drums /. Jazz for children will begin at 11 a.m. in each of the days in Fifth October Park. Every day at 7 p.m. on the Radio Stara Zagora there will be jazz programs.
The main program of the festival will be held the next three days at the Ancient Forum of Stara Zagora. The official start is on 8th June at 06:30 p.m. with a Dixieland parade on the central streets of the town. The opening is at 07:30 p.m. and the first performers are Big Band Ruse with conductor Dimcho Rubchev and soloists Hilda Kazasyan and Hristo Yotsov. From 09:45 p.m. the audience will conquer Zara Dixieland All Stars. In the band participate, prof. Vladimir Radulov / piano and vocal /, Ventzislav Blagoev / cornet /, Rumen Halachev / soprano saxophone /, Georgi Donev / trombone /, Tsvetomir Tsankov / vocal and banjo /, Dimitar Blagoev / banjo /, Krasimir Stefanov / tube / and Emil Kosturkov / drums /.
The evening of June 9 will be opened with performances by the Monk & Dizzy Tribute Band at 07:30 p.m. The ensemble includes Shibil Benev (piano and guitar), Petar Momchev (saxophone), Ventsislav Blagoev (trumpet), Vladislav Minchev (trombone), Dimitar Blagoev (guitar) and Mihail Ivanov (double bass). The second concert for the evening is at the Military Big Band Stara Zagora and starts at 08: 45 p.m. The band will conduct a cap. Tsvetomir Vassilev. Soloists are Craig Bailey from the USA to the saxophone, as well as Marina Gospodinova, Tsvetomir Tsankov, Milica Gladnishka, Petar Salchev, Ventsislav Blagoev, Teodor Petkov. The repertoire of the band will honor the great Ray Charles and Ela Fitzgerald.
The last day of the festival will feature Conrad Hervey from the United States and Andy Scofield from the UK along with Festival All-Stars Big Band. You will be able to hear the virulent saxophonists Dimitar Llelev, Arnau Garofes from Spain, Petar Momchev and Atanas Hadzhiev. But the trumpets will be Gadjalov, Martin Tashev, Georgi Stoykov, Rosen Zahariev and Ventsislav Blagoev. The Zugtrombons will be dominated by Georgi Kornazov, Velislav Stoyanov, Vladislav Mitchev and Dimitar Stoev. The guitar will be Shibil Benev, bass Georgi Donchev, and the drums Atanas Popov. The festival will close the Big Band of Serbian Radio and Television from Belgrade with conductor Ivan Ilich. The evenings on 8, 9 and 10 June will end with a jam session and a cocktail at Musikatos with an opening time of 10:30 p.m.
