Learn traditional crafts at Shipka Fest

From 18 to 25 May, Shipka Fest will be held at the Chirpanlieva House Ethnographic Museum in Shipka. In the arts and crafts days, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the Bulgarian traditions. On May 18, you can learn the secrets of the Kalofer lace. The same day and the following day, Elitsa Maximova will teach you to weave to a horizontal loom.

As part of the Night of Museums Initiative, during which the cultural institutions in the country open doors for free and offer attractive events, the 1930 movie “Under the Eagle Nest” will be screened at the Chirpanlieva House. The starting time is 6 pm. A collection of Bulgarian posters can be seen on May 18th and 19th.

On May 19, Ivanka Zhilkova will deliver free Bulgarian embroidery lessons. On the same day, there is a film panorama in the Chitalishte of Shipka and you will as well see the movie “Green Planet” at 7 pm. On May 24th and 25th, at Chirpanlieva House you will be able to buy handmade household items during the Crafts Market. It will be open from 10 am to 8 pm.

For the whole day on May 24, you can look for the artist inside yourself or give your children a day of painting on an asphalt. At the feast, Desi Vladovska will show you how you can turn a piece of mud clay into a piece of art with your hands at the pottery lessons. The scheduled program for May 24 includes the children’s soap workshop, talks about small and big games, painting of artistic make-up, song meditation with Ina Zhelyazkova.

From 5 pm to 10 pm 17 to 22 in the centre of Shipka you can enjoy dance and music performances. In addition to Georgian dances, you will be able to enjoy Kemindjiji, Trio Kalina and Anton Gudov, the bagpipes of Tryavnenski Gaigy, Vataff Project and Surbahar Live Band. On May 25th, you will be able to join the forging workshop of Stefan Chakov or one for making garbage art objects.
