Over 80 masquerade groups in Yambol for the 20th edition of Kukerlandia

More than 80 masquerade groups of mummers from Bulgaria and abroad will take part in this year’s 20th-anniversary edition of the festival Kukerlandia in Yambol. This year’s event will be held from February 28 to March 3. Undoubtedly, the most interesting part of the program is during the weekend of March 2-3, when the racing march of the masquerade groups will take place.

If you want to watch how the mummers chase evil with terrible masks and bells, you have to take your place in Yambol City Park. Like every year, you will also be able to see the huge mummer masks that have become a symbol of the festival. This year the collection will be filled with a new 5-meter scary mask, which is the 20th, dedicated to the anniversary of the event.

The prize pool for the winners of the competition is BGN 15,000 (approximately 7500 Euro) and the ranking is made by an authoritative jury. In addition to the laureates, each group receives a supportive cash prize to maintain the masquerade tradition, a jubilee plaque and a participation diploma. Parallel to the festival is a photographic contest for the most attractive  moments of the masquerade tradition.

This year, the Yambol municipality has also prepared a series of advertising clips in which the main character is the logo of the festival – stylized mummer. In the spots, traditional storylines were played out, such as the eviction of evil, the reception of spring and the awakening of nature.
