The best local wine will be selected in Melnik during the traditional Wine Festival. In 2019, it will be held between 8 and 10 February. Participants in the competition for the best wine will be able to compete in two categories – “Melnik Loz” and “Bouquet”. Candidates will have to leave two litres of last year’s harvest in Melnik City Hall for evaluation by 8 February.
According to the legend, although not known as a fan of Bulgaria, an admirer of the local famous wine of the Melnik vine variety was the British politician Winston Churchill. Every year, he ordered hundreds of litres of local producers and bottles s travelled to Great Britain, where they were tasted by the Prime Minister and his companions.
During the festival, you can certainly try the local variety. The festival will also include a rich folklore program by local and visiting amateur groups. Among the special guests of the eighth edition of “Golden Grape” are the male folk group “Ograzhden Fours”, as well as the talented Svetla Dukateva and Tsvetelina Veselinova.
