35% less tourists in Pamporovo this winter

The Bulgarian ski resort Pamporovo reports a good winter season, and it is expected that in the coming days the interest will remain and there will be tourists until mid-April. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Mariyana Nikolova, who personally made sure that the lifts and ski lifts in the resort follow the safe health instructions. According to  data from the Unified Tourist Information System, about 62,000 tourists have spent the night in the resort of Pamporovo and the municipalities of Smolyan and Chepelare since the beginning of the winter season. The decline in visitors is expected to be about 35% compared to last ski season. The Bulgarian guests predominate – nearly 58 thousand, as the decrease in their number will be about 20 percent compared to the previous season. This season Pamporovo was also visited by Romanian, Turkish, Serbian and Greek tourists. The majority of visitors in the region are between the ages of 30 and 44, as they are over 40% of all travelers, and over 64% of the guests have chosen to stay in hotels, announced the statistics Nikolova.

Currently in Pamporovo the conditions for snow sports are very good, and the upcoming school vacation in Bulgaria provides another opportunity for trips to the mountains, she stressed. And stressed that the Bulgarian winter resorts are not only safe and secure, but also contribute to improving health. We hope that the increased interest will continue in the remaining days until the end of the season, as a prerequisite for this are the excellent condition of the slopes and the forecast for good weather, added Nikolova.

She noted that the tourism business in Bulgaria has proven that it can work in strict compliance with sanitary and hygienic regulations and uniform rules for safety, security and hygiene and offer an excellent service to tourists. Thanks to the discipline and the strengthened control, during the winter season there is not a single case of a visitor infected with coronavirus in our resorts, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized. She appeals to all those who practice winter sports to use only the treated and marked trails in order to avoid accidents in the mountains.

Deputy Prime Minister Nikolova also presented awards in the first ski and snowboard competition, organized by the Bulgarian snowboarder Rado Yankov.
