Pipers’ competition takes place in Sofia

On 3rd and 4th of September in Sofia you can become a part of the traditional Bagpipe Contest, which usually takes place in the town of Koprivshtitsa. This year the event is titled Koprivshtica visits Sofia. It would be held on the great meadow in South Park.

Bagpipers will compete in a contest to determine who is the greatest master. In the morning the competitors will present in front of a jury. The best of them will have a concert in the afternoon.

At lunch will start the competition “National Chef of Bulgaria.” An amateur chefs will have to cook authentic Bulgarian dishes in old traditional cookware above a lighted fire. The dishes will be sold for charity, and the jury will be the public.

At sunset will be recreated a nestinar procession with generic icons and nestinars dance and walking on fired coals. During the two days of the festival the visitors will be able to buy a local farm food from a traveling bazaar.

The children can learn how to paint on Thracian ritual bread. The first day of the festival will end with dancing and concerts. On the 4th of September will be made an atenmpt for a third Guinness record for the biggest local chutney called lyutenitsa. It is expected to be prepared 1650 kg. of lyutenitsa, which is 50 kg more than last year’s record. Bulgarian tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and carrots will be crushed on site and will be prepared above a lighted fire in an enormous pan. The entrance to the event is free.
