There is a cave in Bulgaria that makes everyone who comes into it feel small and insignificant. Not only because it is over 68 million years old but also because of the two rock holes in its ceiling. The openings are in the form of human eyes and are not accidentally called The eyes of God. Apart from making tourists look at the natural phenomenon, they also illuminate the long 365-meter rock tunnel.
In the past, the whole cave was full of the waters of the Iskar River. Now, however, it impresses with The eyes of the Lord and with the image of a demon who, with a little more imagination, you can see in one of the rocks. It is no coincidence that the cave was chosen as a silent hero in a number of films including The Bulgarian “Time Separated” and “Captain Grant’s Trail”. It is supposed that in the past Prohodna was an important religious object of the ancients’ beliefs. During the spring equinox, there were rituals for fertility.
Whenever you visit it almost certainly on one of the walls of the cave you will see climbers as Prohodna is a favorite place for practicing rock sports. In addition, the 68 million-year-old phenomenon is one of the few caves where you can gain adrenaline with a bungee jump. According to experts, the place is very suitable for beginners lovers of jumping with a rope in the abyss.
The cave is extremely easily accessible. It is located about 120 km to Sofia and 2 km away from the village of Kralukovo. You can also reach it on an eco-path from Lukovit or just stop your vehicle a few hundred meters from the entrance.
