Rock Concert will warm the participants and the guests at the first Medieval Festival in Plovdiv. On June 22, 4 groups will announce the start of “Life in Plovdiv in the Middle Ages”, which will be held in the city under the hills by June 24th. Fans of the wires in the music will be able to hear the performance of “Plastic Bo.” The evening will continue with the songs of “Polygon”, “Grimaze” and “Something Colorful”. The audience will enjoy each of the groups for an hour.
The real festival will start at 10 am on the 23rd of June at the Youth Hill in Plovdiv and will last until late in the evening. The program includes a medieval archery competition at 10.30 am and an open lesson on Medieval Fencing at 12 o’clock. Prof. Kamen Stanev will tell you more about Plovdiv in this historical period. At 16 pm Dr Kalin Ivanov will tell the audience more about the Latin Philipopolitan duchy.
At 2 pm and 3 pm you can see episodes of the documentary “Simeon – the Great Among the Kings”. The theatrical play “Canterbury Stories” will start at 04.30 pm. In the afternoon program, you can also watch many attractive competitions. At 5 pm, will start a race in medieval shooting with rocks. Will follow a sack race and a tournament with medieval equipment and weapons.
From 06.30 pm, you can follow the restoration of the Medieval Feast of the Summer Solstice, which is now better known as the Day of Healing Battles – Enyovden. At 7 pm awards will be given to the visitors of the festival. The evening will end with a few concerts of the groups “Der Dudelgeist”, “Ambient Folklore” and “Kutsulan”.
On Sunday, June 24, the festival program begins at 10 am with the Medieval Puppet Show “Perceval, or The Grail Story”. At 11 am there will be demonstrations of medieval dances and at 12 o’clock will start Medieval Arms Tournament. At 12.30 pm, Dimo Cheshmedzhiev will tell more to the guests of the festival of the cults of Bulgarian saints in the Middle Ages. The program will continue with races of rope pulling, presentation of medieval European poetry in original and translation of the Bulgarian and screenings of episodes from the documentary film dedicated to the Bulgarian King Simeon.
How in the Middle Ages they have produced strong alcohol drinks from honey, Zdravko Peev will tell you about at 4 pm. Then the audience with their performance will cheer a medieval joker. At 5 pm a slave market will be presented, and half an hour later you can track a spear race. Antoaneta Kisyova will explain you more about the Bulgarian lettering and ornamental 6 pm.
At 6:30 pm will begin the race in a medieval struggle. At 7 pm, visitors will be rewarded with prizes and surprises. The evening will end with concerts of KsANa and Eriney. With a fire show on stilts, the festival will close Fireter. The entrance for all days of the event is free of charge.
