On October 1st Samokov Monastery “Pokrov Bogorodichen” celebrates its temple feast. On this day the Orthodox Church celebrates the Protection of the Holy Mother. The holy place is a favorite of the Bulgarian legend of the musical scene Lili Ivanova and she is known as one of the greatest donors of the monastery. To make sure that it is not by accident that the primacy of the Bulgarian stage feels closest to God in this place, visit the monastery.
The monastery was founded in 1772 by an old lady – Fata from Samokov. Then she decided to give her home to the Rila Monastery and at that place founded a monastery. Gradually, the metropolis grew, and in the middle of the 19th century, more than 100 nuns and elders lived in the monastery. No less interesting than the history of the monastery are the icons in the church of the monastery.
It is believed that one of the frescoes with the Patriotic Virgin and the work of Zahari Zograf himself. Certainly, however, there is evidence that icons for the church were painted by his brother, Dimitar Zograph. It is believed that the iconostasis, along with the images of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary with the Child, are depicted and the first teachers, St. St. Cyril and Methodius were made by another famous Samokov painter – Hristo Dimitrov. There are also other icons in the church, which came out from under the hands of the Samokov masters – St. Nicholas and Sts. John Chrysostom.
