The monastery was founded in 1772 by an old lady – Fata from Samokov. Then she decided to give her home to the Rila Monastery and at that place founded a monastery. Gradually, the metropolis grew, and in the middle of the 19th century, more than 100 nuns and elders lived in the monastery. No less interesting than the history of the monastery are the icons in the church of the monastery.

It is believed that one of the frescoes with the Patriotic Virgin and the work of Zahari Zograf himself. Certainly, however, there is evidence that icons for the church were painted by his brother, Dimitar Zograph. It is believed that the iconostasis, along with the images of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary with the Child, are depicted and the first teachers, St. St. Cyril and Methodius were made by another famous Samokov painter – Hristo Dimitrov. There are also other icons in the church, which came out from under the hands of the Samokov masters – St. Nicholas and Sts. John Chrysostom.

I love history, to walk through old cobblestone streets, to smell the air of the past times and to feel the legends in the air. And I'm lucky to have been born in a country with a glorious past and a lot of stories to tell. Bulgaria was founded more than 1,300 years ago and has never changed its name. But the life of people, their everyday habits, their traditions, their music and their art have changed over the centuries. I invite you to take a walk through the different ages of Bulgaria and to get to know it better.
