On Easter, you will have a chance to see the unique spectacle “Sound and light” free over Tsarevets Fortress. The start of the show is on April 16 at 9 p.m. and can be seen from the square “Tsar Asen I”. This is not the only surprise that Veliko Turnovo Municipality has prepared to celebrate the holiday in the city.

Those who choose to celebrate Easter in the old capital of Bulgaria will be able to receive one of 2700’s Easter eggs lit on Holy Thursday in the Cathedral “Nativity of the Virgin Mary.” The eggs were painted by students from the local primary school “St. Patriarch Euthymius”. At each egg, there will be a piece of cake. In Easter night of April 15, they will be given on  Square “Tsar Asen I”

Earlier, at 10:30 p.m. the gates of Tsarevets Fortress will be open. In the Patriarchate Museum, “Vaznesenie Gospodne”the Bishop of Veliko Tarnovo Gregory will serve a Paschal celebration. At midnight ringing of all church bells will proclaim Christ’s resurrection. With the removal of the Holy Fire from the Patriarchate Bishop Gregory the Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo Daniel Panov will lead the procession.

It will run from Tsarevets fortress to the Cathedral “Nativity of the Virgin Mary”, where at 1:00 in the morning will be held a liturgy. In the procession will include 150 volunteers with glowing torches. Another liturgy will be held on April 16 at 11 a.m. in the new temple ” Resurrection of Christ”.
