The ancient fortress Tsari Mali Grad opened on July 20
On July 20, 2013 opened one of the most attractive archaeological complexes in Bulgaria. The ancient fortress “Tsari Mali Grad” is located on St. Spas hill, near Belchin village, in the Samokov area.
The complex comprises a restored fortress from IV-V century and a church from XVII century. A three-storey museum showcases various exhibits, evidence for the presence of Thracians, Goths, Romans and Christians in this area.
Next to the museum there is a park and a stage for various art performances, as well as an interesting rope city. A rail road, starting at the foot of the hill, leads to the fortress.
The name “Tsari Mali Grad” derives from Tsarevets, since the archaeological site is as large and is no less attractive.
