Varna museums are ready to welcome tourist and guests of the city in the summer season 2012
The Archeological museum of Varna
The Archeological museum of Varna now has refurbished halls, attractive design, and modern interior lighting. Interactive systems and educational boards will provide additional information for each of the historic periods of Varna and Varna region. Visitors will be able again to get close to the beauty of the Panagyurishte gold treasure, which will be exhibited from June to September, as well as to enjoy the wonderful Greek painted pottery from Sozopol.
The only hall remained unchanged is the one that comprises a collection of icons, which, however, is one of the best in Bulgaria. The exhibits in the Varna Chalcolithic necropolis will be shown in a new way. For the first time in the hall “North” will be exhibited one of the richest collections of medieval age weapons in Bulgaria – “Armaments from the Revival and modern time.”
On the second floor of the museum, in 10 halls, of which two separate– Religious rituals and rites hall and Treasures hall, a vast exhibition of Medieval Varna will take place. The best examples of goldsmith’s art from 13th to 14th centuries, found in Dolishte, Evksinograd, Shkorpilovtsi etc., will be shown in the Treasures Hall. The exhibition consists of more than 100 pieces of gold and silver jewelry, such as unique tiaras, rings, necklaces, earrings, men belts made of gold-woven silk.
This Varna Museum owns the largest in Northeastern and Eastern Europe collection of medieval artifacts of metal work and jewellery art.
