The best municipality for sea tourism in Bulgaria is Varna. The prestigious award was received after online voting contest organised by the Ministry of Tourism. The vote detachments first of Bansko as the best municipality for mountain tourism. Velingrad again took the top spot in the category “Municipality of 2016 for SPA tourism”. Ruse Municipality has earned the award for the best place in Bulgaria for cultural tourism.
In a close battle for the votes the first place in the category of tourist attraction took the fortress Tuida that is situated near Sliven. Second with only 2 percent difference remained the Museum of the Cyrillic alphabet near Pliska. The prize for tourist event of 2016 went to the Rose Festival in Kazanlak. In the second place by a narrow margin remained the National Folk Festival in Rozhen.
In the category “Spirit of Bulgaria” most of the votes went to the National folk festival “Ledenika” that is held every year near Vratsa. The award for specialised tourism went to the archaeological reserve “The Old Town” of Plovdiv. For tourist destination of the yearare awarded the municipalities of Shumen, Kaspichan and Veliki Preslav, where you can learn more about the roots of Bulgaria.
