Workshop for masks, culinary surprises and 7400 participants in Surva 2019

Dozens of surprises await the audience of the biggest masquerade festival in the world Surva 2019. Between 25th and 27th of January in Pernik will once again gather mummers, burgers, sourvakari and masked men, women and children from all over the world who will chase away evil, and prosper a fertile year, as tradition dictates. This year, in the festival, will take a record number of masked – 7400 people from 121 groups. 17 of the teams are from abroad.

Surva

In addition to the traditional program with spectacular discovery and defile, the organizers have also prepared a rich accompanying program. The official opening is scheduled for 6 pm on Friday in front of the Palace of Culture. Throughout the day, however, you can learn how to make the traditional masks for Surva at the Youth Centre. There, during the three days of the festival, you will learn the finesse for the processing of animal skins by masters between 10 am and 5 pm.

On Friday, between 9 am and 5 pm, you can learn more about tradition at the “Day and Masks” conference at the Palace of Culture. Between 10 am and 5 pm at the United Children’s Complex, the smallest children can take part in the children’s entertainer. At 11 am on the 25th in front of the Municipal Youth Centre, you can also try traditional winter dishes from the region. At 01.30 pm in the “Lyuben Gaidarov” Gallery will be opened an exhibition devoted to the festival called “Surva Art”.

At Krakra Square at 2 pm, you can witness the youth masquerade gorge “Survakariada”. At 05.45 pm in the centre of Pernik, there will pass a Sourvakar defile with torches. After the official opening, you can watch a concert of the foreign groups in the village of Survakar at 07.30 pm.

Surva

On Saturday, January 26th and Sunday, January 27th, between 10 am and 5 pm, you can watch the races of the participants. On the 26th of the second stage in front of the Palace of Culture, the visiting foreign groups will be presented between 11 am and 2 pm. At 6 pm in the Mummer’s village starts a folklore program. On January 27, at 11 am, there will be a culinary show with many tastings in City Park. At 6 pm is the official closing of the festival.
